Hip Hop Kido Shirt
Project: Apparel Design
Walter Emanuel Jones starred in the hit television children’s series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” as Zach Taylor, the Black Ranger. Since he left the show, he has starred in other series and films, such as Disney’s “Brink”, Nickelodeon’s “Space Cases”, and BET’s “Boomerang”. Walter has also appeared at numerous pop culture conventions throughout the world; signing autographs, taking photos, and meeting fans. Walter and I met at the Cincinnati Comic Expo in 2015. I told him I had an idea for a t-shirt he could sell at future events, and we discussed it a few days later. The shirt is a vanity design based on his character from Power Rangers. He taught a unique style of martial arts called “Hip Hop Kido” that integrated dancing with martial arts. For this design, I made it look like his character Zach opened up a school for Hip Hop Kido. I integrated elements from the Hapkido flag with the Mastodon Power Coin and used a martial arts silhouette and a dancer silhouette.
